Prescribing Practices

Physician prescribing practices are influenced by many factors with the most important being patient safety. In order to formulate the best prescription therapy plan, physician's should complete a thorough medical evaluation to assess the patient's medical condition(s) and status. Other factors that influence prescribing practices include drug costs and a patient's insurance plan. The use of electronic prescription software can improve patient safety by allowing pharmacists to review for contraindications with over-the-counter or prescription medications. Pharmacists and physicians must work together and coordinate efforts to maximize patient safety.
