Nursing Home Overview

Effective August 1, 2008, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) ended its efforts to collect process-of-care data as part of the Nursing Home Quality Initiative.

The Nursing Home Improvement and Feedback Tool, NHIFT, is no longer available, and nursing homes may no longer submit quality of care data to the QIO Clinical Warehouse.

As part of ongoing CMS quality improvement efforts focused on patient safety, Quality Improvement Organizations (QIOs) will be working with a select number of nursing homes to reduce the incidence of pressure ulcers and use of physical restraints. For more information, see the Nursing Home Quality Initiative (NHQI) Overview on the CMS website.

A list of QIO Nursing Home Quality Initiative Contacts is available from the American Health Quality Association (AHQA) website.
